Every state seems to boast that they have the best state fair, but really, nothing quite compares to the Iowa State Fair. I mean, who wouldn't want to come and see a cow made out of butter?
Typically we go and make an entire day of the fair. But it is August, and in Iowa that means it is hot...and humid...and sweaty miserable. But surprisingly this year the temps have been in the 70's and 80's during the fair. So the hubs and I decided to go and spend an evening at the fair and enjoy dinner on all the fine fair foods.
You can easily spend a day enjoying everything the fair has to offer, or be hard core and enjoy the entire 10 or 11 days camping out on the fairgrounds.
There are shows of every sort free concerts every day, food, a headlining concert every night, food, livestock shows and contests, food, vendors of all kinds, food, rides, food, art contests, baking and cooking contests...you get the idea. A typical fair, only on a large scale.
My favorite thing to do at the fair is eat all the awesome food and people watch. Yep. People watching at its finest. And at night when the $9 beers are flowing, the people come out for sure!
Well we didn't go to see much this year, but we went for the food and for our daughter to enjoy her first Ferris Wheel ride. ($5 a person...we rode it twice) eeks!
