Buttercream Frosting

Frosting.
There are so many different recipes and different ways that it can be made.
Flavors and colors can be added.
Really, it is pretty much limitless what you can do with frosting.
So what is my "go-to" frosting for my baking?
Buttercream of course!!
But why?
  1. It holds it shape well
  2. It colors easily
  3. You can add flavor (almond, vanilla, etc)
  4. It can be turned into chocolate frosting easily
  5. It is easy to pipe or spread
  6. Tastes great on cookies, cakes, & cupcakes (of course)
  7. Great under fondant
  8. Super easy to make!
This is my favorite recipe for buttercream frosting:

Buttercream Frosting

by Emily Chhouy
Prep Time: 10 min

Ingredients (Frosts lots of cookies, 24 cup)
  • 1 cup butter (I always use salted)
  • 2 lbs. powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla or almond flavoring
Instructions
Cream butter with mixer.
Add powdered sugar slowly, letting it combine with the butter.
Pour in the milk slowly so it doesn't splash.
Add vanilla or almond extract.
Mix until frosting is well combined and peaks start to form and hold their shape.
Pipe or spread onto your cake or cookies!

  1. Hi, i just found your blog and i think its awesome, im gonna attempt to make the monster high cake for my daughters birthday next week. I'm wondering how much does this recipe yield. Should I double it? I'm planning to make the cake with 2 layers of frosting in the middle and the coat on top. I was also wondering if you had a choclate fudge butter cream recipe, as i planned on coloring that black for the sides, instead of trying to color white buttercream black. Thanks
